Skansie Brothers PH-65

Here is an incredible opportunity to buy a classic well kept converted Seiner. The Commencement was built using Douglas Fir planking, white oak frames and galvanized iron fastenings.

This historic vessel was designed and built by Euro-American craftsman in 1926 at the Skansie Ship Building and Transportation Company in Gig Harbor, Washington. It was operated by Croatian net fishermen for 70 years in Washington and Alaskan waters.

In 1996, the Commencement was retired from the commercial fishing industry and rehabilitated by Vlahovich Boat Corporation to provide at-sea heritage educational opportunities for the general public.

The vessel now accommodates up to six passengers in its converted "fish hold" and provides experiential programming along the Pacific Northwest Coast from Puget Sound to Southeast Alaska.

In 2006 the Commencement was donated to the non-profit preservation organization Coastal Heritage Alliance where it has been used as a six pack floating classroom.

Due to changing circumstances CHA is now offering the Commencement for sale to the public.
